Stroke Certified Registered Nurse Review Course (SCRN) Presented by Carrie Cobos

Certification in stroke nursing is a formal recognition of the attainment and demonstration of a unique body of knowledge necessary for the practice of stroke nursing. Neuroscience nursing is the diagnosis and treatment of actual or potential patient and family responses to nervous system function and dysfunction across the health care continuum. This review course is to prepare the nurse that is on the journey to become an SCRN. the volume and complexity of our patients is changing drastically. The stroke nurse needs to be equipped with the right knowledge in both cutting edge therapies/technology and evidence based practice. Having this certification improves patient outcomes, decreases length of stay an inproves job satisfaction.
OBJECTIVES: During this course, the student will be able to:
1. Describe basic anatomy and physiology of the brain
2. Summarize primary prevention for stroke
3. Compare the hyper-acute, acute and post acute phases of stroke care
4. Discuss various diagnostis for stroke
5. Explain systems and quality of care
(SCRN Handbook & class materials will be sent via email to each participant. If a hard copy is requested, there will be additional charges)


Please Note: Students who arrive after the 15 minute grace period will NOT be allowed to attend the course. Professional attire/scrubs are expected to be worn when attending any Flex Ed course.
