NRP Instructor Class

This Instructor Class is an 8-hour class for those persons who wish to facilitate the Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) Skills Validation Sessions. Upon successful completion of the 8 hour course, the instructor candidate will obtain an American Academy of Pediatrics Hospital Based Instructor Card. Instructor candidates will be able to teach an NRP Skills Validation Course according to the principles outlined in the Neonatal Resuscitation Instructor Manual. Skills include but are not limited to: umbilical vascular access, chest compressions, ventilations, endotracheal intubation and megacode.
To teach NRP Skills Validation Sessions through Flex Ed, the instructor candidate must:
Be professional and reliable
Be motivated to teach
Be motivated to facilitate learning
Be motivated to ensure that students acquire the skills necessary for successful course completion
View student assessment as a way to improve individual knowledge and skills
Complete a course monitoring session under the guidance of an approved Flex Ed NRP lead instructor
Instructor Candidate Approval/AAP Requirements
Display a strong knowledge base of NRP concepts and practices
Be a Physician, registered nurse, respiratory therapist, PA, or NP, with ongoing delivery room, newborn nursery, or NICU experience
Have clinical or educational responsibilities with a hospital or nursing/medical school with the signed support of a manager or supervisor within that organization
Have a current NRP Provider Card issued under the 2011 Guidelines, with sections 1-9 completed. Candidates must have successfully completed the online examination for NRP WITHIN 30 DAYS OF THE COURSE. The exam is located at http://www2.aap.org/nrp. The cost of the exam is approximately $24 and is paid at the time the exam is completed
All instructor candidates must read their Provider and Instructor Manuals prior to class
The NRP Instructor Self-Assessment (see page 187 of the Instructor Manual) is to be completed and brought to the Instructor Course
The NRP Instructor DVD (An Interactive Tool for Facilitation of Simulation-Based Learning) must be completed before the candidate can co-teach the first class.
Please Note: Students who arrive after the 15 minute grace period will NOT be allowed to attend the course.
Professional attire/scrubs are expected to be worn when attending any Flex Ed course.
